If you’re unhappy with your smile due to crooked teeth, your situation isn’t hopeless! There are plenty of available treatment options that can effectively correct misaligned teeth; and fortunately, many of them are much quicker, comfortable, and discreet compared to traditional braces. That said, how do you know if you should go with a professional option like Invisalign, or opt for cheaper, do-it-yourself alternatives? Keep reading to learn about four reasons why Invisalign easily outperforms other DIY clear aligners and is the better choice by far.

1. Invisalign Starts with an In-Office Consultation

Visiting your dentist prior to beginning any form of treatment is important; this allows your dentist to ensure that your mouth is in a healthy state and can handle whatever treatment you’re about to throw at it. That said, many people find the idea of DIY alternatives appealing because it means they don’t  have to set foot inside their dentist’s office—but this isn’t wise! Not to mention, allowing your dentist to begin the treatment process with an in-person consultation will ensure that your treatment solutions are properly fitted and shaped for your mouth; DIY options are often one-size-fits-all and will not feel comfortable to wear.

2. Your Dentist Will Supervise Your Invisalign Treatment

Your dentist will be with you every step of the way throughout your Invisalign treatment, meaning that as soon as a problem develops or you’re uncertain about something, you’ll be able to seek help. It also ensures an uninterrupted treatment process. Although DIY treatments are more convenient and don’t require regular check-ins, this also leaves plenty of room for doubt or for problems to remain undetected.

3. Reputable Organizations Do Not Recommend DIY Clear Aligners

Invisalign is recommended by all the major professional dental organizations including the American Dental Association (ADA), the most trusted of them all. In fact, the ADA and many other organizations actually discourage the use of all DIY orthodontics! The reason is simple; these products don’t meet adequate standards for safety or efficiency, and many consumer warnings and complaints have been filed for them.

4. Invisalign Is Reliable

Invisalign has helped millions of patients achieve straighter, healthier smiles—the track record and reviews speak for themselves. That said, this reliability and efficacy isn’t matched by any of the available DIY alternatives. In fact, many of these options have mixed and poor reviews; and some patients have even experienced worsened orthodontic issues because of them!

Your smile is an important part of you; if you’re going to invest in it, don’t settle for lesser treatment options! Talk with your dentist about Invisalign as a possible option for correcting your smile; it’s proven and viable and is certain to provide you with better results than anything you can do on your own.
